I'm making a totally new thread for this, because this will be a bit different this time around.

There will no longer be any sources available on here. I would use the SmashWorld forums, but finding sources was kind of a pain in the ass and I don't think you guys honestly cared anyway.

So there will be at least another 25 updates in this thread, so watch out guys, I still have over 60 left. So with 4 months left now, we should get them out of the way before then! I hope you guys will enjoy!

Update #13

King Dedede

Series: Kirby
First Game: Kirby's Dream Land
Creator: Masahiro Sakurai
Type: Penguin-like Menace

King Dedede is the first antagonist and arch-enemy to Kirby in Nintendo and HAL Labs' long-running Kirby video game series, appearing in every game except Kirby and the Amazing Mirror. While he isn't necessarily evil, he causes many problems for the inhabitants of Dream Land through selfish mischief, such as stealing their food or building a castle on top of the Fountain Of Dreams so that the denizens suffer from dreamless sleep. His more heinous actions are more often due to possession by more sinister entity of Dark Matter, along with the rest of the usual franchise enemies. Despite this, he and Kirby have teamed up on occasions with the purpose of taking down a greater common foe.

Due to an ambiguous description of the geography of Pop Star, it is never made entirely clear how much of the planet Dedede assumes rulership of, though he seems to have castles and fortresses all across the planet. Even so, he seems to perform no administrative functions, and for the most part the planet seems to ignore any edicts that are issued by him.

King Dedede resembles an overweight penguin-like creature, dressed in red royal finery, with his personal emblem embossed on the back of his robe. He also wears yellow gloves, and usually wields a large hammer as an offensive weapon. He has many of the same abilities as Kirby himself does, such as being able to inhale objects and spit them back out with tremendous force, and following Kirby's Dream Land, the ability to suck in air and fly.

Chances: 85%-90%

I was so close to giving King Dedede a 90% chance, (meaning I'm almost certain that the character will be included) but with Metaknight already in Brawl, I'm not sure what to give him. We'll go with somewhere in the neighborhood between 85%-90%.

Why does Dedede have such high chances you may ask? Few fans realize how close this plump and pudgy penguin has come to playability in the past. The Kirby series including King Dedede was created by Masahiro Sakurai – the man who is now the game director for Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Because of the close ties and shared creative leadership between the Kirby and Smash brands, the hammer-wielding, wacky monarch of the Dream Land kingdom was supposedly a part of the planned design for Smash Bros. from the very beginning, and he could have shown up as early as the original Super Smash Bros. on the Nintendo 64. Sakurai held him back, though, in both that game and in Melee – but his time might have come now. With the confirmation of fellow Kirby universe character Metaknight as a playable newcomer, Masahiro seems to have finally decided that it's OK to include more of his own in-house mascots.

Dedede would be an excellent addition with a potentially awesome move-set. Sakurai would make sure that Dedede would be an excellent character. Look at the video demos of Metaknight on GameSpot or IGN for excellent examples of how awesome he looks.

Update #1

Sonic the Hedgehog

Series: Sonic
First Game: Sonic the Hedgehog
Creator: Naoto Ōshima & Yuji Naka
Type: Lightning-Fast Hedgehog

The legendary video game legend and Sega mascot Sonic the Hedgehog! Sonic the Hedgehog is the hottest video game personality of the 90's. Sonic embodies the wind, as implied in multiple games, and is described as such. He is noted for being free-spirited, adventurous, outgoing and caring, cherishing his freedom to live as he wants above all else. He is extremely impatient and will often jump into situations without thinking, and his confidence is unshakable, even in the most dire circumstances, believing that no matter how bad a situation seems his speed and courage can pull him through. He rarely ever acts serious, and often makes a large number of witty remarks. He displays an interest in rock music, and some official character art and a television commercial for Sonic Adventure suggests that he has a personal hobby as a DJ. Similarly, the SatAM and Sonic Underground cartoon series, as well as the Archie comic, have shown that Sonic is a capable guitarist. Sonic also enjoys break-dancing, as shown in several games. Though he dislikes slow moving things and tears, the only thing Sonic truly hates is oppression. It is known that Sonic dislikes and fears water because he cannot swim. Despite this, he has managed to overcome his hydrophobia throughout his adventures, going as far as braving temporary submersion.

The Sonic series was the first set of games to compete with and rival the Mario series. The Sega and Nintendo rivalry of the 90's was easily the greatest period on video games. You had both Nintendo and Sega competing with each other to outdo the other. It was always Sonic vs. Mario, who was always the best character. Well, wouldn't be awesome to settle this in a Brawl. Well, the only way it can happen is on Super Smash Bros. Brawl! Sonic has been wanted on the Smash Bros, games since Melee. With the 2 franchises finally crossing over in the Mario & Sonic Olympic game, there has a definite chance of happening. Sonic would easily be the biggest character that they can get into this game. It simply needs to happen. Let's hope it does!

Chances: 100% (Believe it or not, he has been officially been confirmed!)
(Originally planned to be 90%)

With the release of the Mario & Sonic Olympic game, Sonic in Brawl was almost surely going to happen. The only doubt that I had would have been keeping Sonic out of Brawl to make the Olympic game more special by being the only game to feature both Mario & Sonic. Of course, it will still be the first game to feature both, but you got to think this will somehow affect the sales of this game. I'll probably purchase it because it actually looks good, but the main selling point was Mario and Sonic being in a game together. People can just wait an extra 2 or 3 months for Brawl for that now. Still, having Sonic in Brawl can also help to revitalize his popularity and Sega has to be getting a small share of the sells from Brawl, so in the end it was almost too obvious Sonic was going to be included.

Update #2

Lucas

Series: Mother (EarthBound in America)
First Game: Mother 3
Creator: Shigesato Itoi
Type: Psi-Wielding Hero

The hero and main character of Mother 3 (of what Americans know as the EarthBound series), Lucas was speculated to replace Ness in the Smash Bros. roster during the development of the last installment, Melee. His debut game, though, got unceremoniously dumped – the original version of Mother 3 was to appear on the Nintendo 64, but the project was scrapped. Years later, Mother 3 was revived. Its scenario and characters were the same as they'd been planned to be back in 2000, but the game got a total visual refit as a sprite-based GBA title. Lucas appeared as intended – like Ness, an average, unassuming, good-natured boy who ends up leading a party of kooky characters and mastering psychic powers. Masahiro Sakurai has confirmed that music from Mother 3 will appear in Brawl, which suggests that Lucas may finally be stepping in to take Ness' place – but a counter-argument to that point is that Mother 3 hasn't made it out of Japan, so he'd be an unknown throughout most of the world.

Chances: 100% (Officially Confirmed)
(Originally planned to be 90%)

Due to Mother 3's success in Japan, and the speculation of Lucas being originally planned for Melee, Lucas' chances were really high to begin with. EarthBound (Mother 2 in Japan) representative Ness was in the first 2 Smash Bros. games, so the developers definitely consider this series important. So, Lucas was almost a lock in the beginning anyway. The only thing slightly hurting his chances was that Mother 3 is a Japan only title. It has been speculated that the developers didn't want any Japan exclusive characters, but they were considering it anyway. Why? Because the success of Fire Emblem in the U.S. thanks to Smash Bros. Melee. Perhaps Lucas being in Brawl can help the chances of Mother 3 finally coming the States. Let's hope so folks, because I want to play another Mother/EarthBound game!

Update #3

Andy

Series: Advance Wars
First Game: Advance Wars
Creator: Intelligent Systems
Type: Commanding Officer

Nintendo's "Wars" series has been providing players with strategy combat action since the 8-bit era – in Japan. Here in America, the series was passed over for localization until just six years ago, when Advance Wars arrived on the GBA in the fall of 2001. With it came a fresh-faced young commanding officer named Andy, the default leader for players leaping into the war of Orange Star. Andy's a capable CO, if a bit forgetful at first. But as you progress through the campaigns of Advance Wars, his abilities and leadership grow. He gains the power to call upon his mechanical prowess and execute a Hyper Repair of all of his units at once, and later the further ability to Upgrade those units with additional effectiveness in battle. How would an army commander work in a game more suited to common foot soldiers? It would be interesting to see, but he could certainly build a moveset based on military weapons and high explosives, even calling in a full-on air strike as his Final Smash. And wouldn't you love the chance to drive a tank onto a Smash Bros. battlefield?

Chances: 70%

Andy would be a welcome addition to Brawl, he would definitely be unique as well. The Advance Wars series is a great series that deserves some representation in Smash Bros. It's hard to guess what his chances would be, but he would fit in well with the other Nintendo All-Stars. I would like to see him get in, but I would guess that Nintendo would choose other characters over him. I'd say his chances are decent.

Update #4

Captain Syrup

Series: Wario Land
First Game: Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3
Creator: ????
Type: Pirate Thief

Captain Syrup is the leader of a legion of seafaring thieves known as the Brown Sugar Pirates. She is a technological genius and inventor, constantly building mechanized apparatuses to assist her in attacking whatever target she chooses. She is the Captain of the S.S. Teacup, a massive pirate ship that carries her and her army of underlings across the seven seas to pillage and loot whatever land they come across. Their base of operations is Kitchen Island, a gigantic coved island in the middle of nowhere. Syrup is Wario's first nemesis and the first major female antagonist in the extended Super Mario series.

Chances: 15%

Captain Syrup would be a cool and totally different addition to Brawl, but her chances are definitely low. Captain Syrup was the antagonist of the Wario Land series, which was a good series, but it wasn't really too significant. There is a chance that she might be an assist trophy, but I'm not even too sure of that. Don't expect this pirate to be in Brawl.

Update #5

Bowser Jr.

Series: Mario
First Game: Super Mario Sunshine
Creator: Shigeru Miyamoto
Type: Bowser's Mischievous Son

Bowser Jr. is the child of Bowser that debuted in Super Mario Sunshine. He acts as the main antagonist of both Super Mario Sunshine (where he first appears as Shadow Mario) and New Super Mario Bros., with his father only playing a minor role in each. He also appears in the various Mario sports games. He is also set to appear in Super Mario Galaxy, as evidenced by official artwork released by Nintendo.

In Super Mario Sunshine, Bowser Jr. uses a magic paintbrush, invented by Professor E. Gadd, and a special kerchief to transform into a translucent blue doppelganger of Mario, Shadow Mario, who vandalizes Isle Delfino, tricking the native people into believing that Mario himself is to blame. He does this to Mario because Bowser tells him that Princess Peach is his mother, and that Mario has kidnapped her. Bowser Jr. kidnaps her himself, and is eventually defeated along with Bowser. He realized that Princess Peach isn't his mother before Bowser decided to tell him, but he still refers to Peach as "Mama" sometimes in later games, such as when he challenges Princess Peach to a game in Mario Superstar Baseball.

Chances: 85%

Bowser Jr. should be probably be the one new addition from the Mario series. Bowser Jr. has taken his father's position as the main antagonist in the Mario Series in the past few games and possibly even Mario Galaxy. He could have a move-set similar to Bowser's and he could even have a transformation where he could become Shadow Mario. Bowser Jr.'s chances of making it into Brawl seem pretty good. The only thing hurting him is that there might already be enough Mario characters in Brawl already.

On a side note: It seems that all of Bowser's children that appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World have been completely phased out. Oh well, one child is enough anyway right?

Update #6

R.O.B.

Series: None in Particular
First Game: Gyromite
Creator: Nintendo
Type: Robotic Accessory

R.O.B. (Robotic Operating Buddy) is an accessory for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The R.O.B. functions by receiving commands via optical flashes from a television screen. With the head pointed always at the screen, the arms move left, right, up, and down, and the hands pinch together and separate to manipulate objects on fixtures attached to the base.

In Gyromite, one of R.O.B.'s base attachments holds and pushes buttons on an ordinary controller. In Stack-Up the player is supposed to press a button on his or her own controller to indicate when R.O.B. completes a task. While the Robot Series games were among the most complex of their time, they were reliant upon the honor system in that gamers could simply press the buttons on the controller themselves without involving R.O.B. at all. R.O.B. has also appeared in Mario Kart DS as an unlockable racer.

Chances: 5% or lower

A multiple number of R.O.B. were shown in the Supspace Emissary video a couple months ago. They were shown off as enemy weapons, so the chances of R.O.B. being playable is almost zero. R.O.B. would have been an excellent addition, it could have been a lot like Mr. Game & Watch, a totally unique addition. Hopefully Nintendo will have something else good in mind.

Update #7

Simon Belmont

Series: Castlevania
First Game: Castlevania
Creator: Ayami Kojima
Type: Dracula Slayer

Simon Belmont is the main protagonist in a set of Castlevania games made by Konami, the first being on the Nintendo Entertainment System. During the life of Simon Belmont, the Belmont name was well known and quite famous, making Simon famous as well. When the Count Dracula once again awoke in 1691 and started terrorizing the people of Transylvania, they sought out Simon, who was promptly on the case.

He would fulfill the Belmont legacy once again, defeating Dracula. However, Dracula was not one to just up and admit defeat. Instead, this time he sacrificed an early resurrection and placed a curse on Simon. By having his minions take his body parts and hide them all over Transylvania, he believed and hoped that Simon could not find them all in time and the curse would over take him and the Belmont family lineage would succumb. However, that did not happen, as Simon would be successful in locating all the body parts to resurrect Dracula and promptly defeating him, thus lifting the curse.

Simon Belmont also appeared in the fighting game Dream Mix TV World Fighters along with fellow Konami character and confirmed Brawl fighter Snake.

Chances: 30%

Simon Belmont is an obvious excellent possible addition to Brawl. He was the star of the first Castlevania game on the NES, so in a way he's a Nintendo mascot from the 8-bit days. If Nintendo attempts to get any additional characters from Konami into Brawl, then you better believe it will be Simon Belmont! His chances are low due to the fact that he is a 3rd party character. Although we know that Konami is lending Snake to Nintendo for Brawl, do you think Brawl needs more Konami characters? If Nintendo can not get characters like Mega-Man, Pac-Man, or Bomberman in Brawl, then perhaps Nintendo could add Simon Belmont. We'll just have to wait and see.

Update #8

Wind Waker Link

Series: Zelda
First Game: The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker
Creator: Shigeru Miyamoto
Type: Cel-shaded Hero

The Wind Waker version of the Zelda hero Link.

You can still feel the collective cringe. When Miyamoto first revealed, years ago, that he'd chosen a cel-shaded cartoon style for The Wind Waker, fans and critics across the industry joined together in unified disdain – what had he done to our good old Link? The negativity has softened now, over the years, and after Wind Waker turned out to be a great game. And Nintendo's kept this look of Link alive – it's become something of his official style for portable titles, seen in The Minish Cap and Four Swords on the GBA, and soon to be seen again in Phantom Hourglass on the DS. But will he be seen in Brawl? A popular notion is that, yes, he will – as an upgrade/replacement for Melee's Young Link. This new tooned-out hero could draw on an entirely separate set of items and abilities from Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass to fuel a fresh, non-cloned moveset, and he could be a fun addition to play. And, of course, cel-shader haters could finally get the chance to beat the snot out of this kid, using the mature Twilight Princess Link as their weapon of destruction.

Chances: 80%

An excellent suggestion that I actually like. The Wind Waker Link is the obvious replacement for Young Link off of Melee. Since the Adult Link will have moves inspired by the Twillight Princess game, Young Link can have somewhat different moves that are inspired from Wind Waker and the GBA games. In other words the Adult Link can be like Mario and Young Link can be like Luigi. They can both be very similar, but have a few different moves that clearly make them different.

Update #9

Django

Series: Boktai (Lunar Knights)
First Game: Boktai: The Sun is in Your Hand
Creator: Konami
Type: Vampire Hunter

The Solar Boy Django is one of Konami's more recent mascots, having appeared for the first time only just a few years ago in Boktai for the GBA. Boktai was a unique game with unique hardware, in that it had a solar sensor built in to the cartridge – you had to rely on the power of the actual sun outside to charge up your light-powered weapons in the game, then use that stored luminance to dispatch the dreary denizens of the night. Django's solar gun and light sword could become the focus for a Brawl moveset, but the thing that makes him worth bringing up at all is his already-established history of crossing over into other company's games. Django and elements of his world have popped up on more than one occasion in Capcom's Mega Man Battle Network series, which is a bit of cross-corporate placement that you don't often see happen. Could Django, already experienced with showing up in games not made by his own company, do the same in Super Smash Bros.?

Chances: 10%

Here's another character that I guarantee none of you were expecting. Another character that I would love to be included, but probably will not make it. Nintendo will more than likely not add another Konami character, Snake is more than enough to please the Konami fans. But, Django would be a cool inclusion. Unlike Snake, Django is basically a Nintendo character. To my knowledge, every game Django has appeared on has been on a Nintendo console. So, Django could represent Nintendo as well, since the Lunar Knights games are exclusive to Nintendo portable systems. Still, I can almost guarantee that Django will no make it into Brawl.

Update #10

Black Knight

Series: Fire Emblem
First Game: Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
Creator: Shouzou Kaga
Type: Daein's most powerful general

The Black Knight is the main antagonist in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. The Black Knight's identity is never spoken of, save for the fact that he was once a student of General Gawain (Greil) and is now the most powerful of Daein's Four Riders. He wears a special suit of full-body black armor that has been blessed by the goddess, making it impenetrable to all weapons save those that have also been blessed, such as Ragnell. He also has access to numerous other arcane items as well, such as the Warp Powder he uses to travel, his sword Alondite, and the sword Ragnell which he gives to Greil seemingly as an act of mercy, but mostly for an interesting battle. After killing Greil, he becomes Ike's (who is confirmed for Brawl) mortal enemy, and he spends much of the game performing acts to enable Ashnard's efforts, such as providing Ashnard with blessed armour (much like his own). Ashnard, after a comment from General Petrine about the Black Knight's strength, said he would be interested in challenging the Knight some day.

Ike engages the Black Knight in a duel after capturing a Daein castle. When the Black Knight is defeated, he commends Ike on his growth in skill and strength, after which traps are set off in the fortress, burying him. The character is voiced by voice actor Junji Majima in Japanese; in English, the voice is provided by Mark Dias.

Chances: 55%

Black Knight would be an excellent addition to Brawl. He could already fit into a possible storyline since Ike is in the game already. That could possibly mean he could be a boss rather than a playable character, so this hurts his chances. Also, there are plenty of other Nintendo villains that should appear in Brawl over Black Knight. Black Knight would honestly probably be a better choice than most Nintendo villains as he could have a potentially awesome move-set. But his chances are kind of low, but it's not totally outrageous to to believe that he will be in Brawl, because I have a feeling he will be included in some capacity.

Update #11

Meowth

Series: Pokemon
First Game: Pokemon Red/Blue
Creator: Satoshi Tajiri
Type: Fury-Swiping Pocket Monster

Meowth has a distinctly feline appearance, resembling a small housecat. It has cream-colored fur, which turns brown at its paws and tail tip. Its oval-shaped head features prominent whiskers, black-and-brown ears and a koban,a gold oval coin (also known as "charm") embedded in its forehead. Meowth's coloration, its love of coins (see below) and its charm indicate that Meowth is based on the Japanese Maneki Neko, a cat-shaped figurine that is said to bring good luck and money to its owner.

Meowth is an urban nocturnal Pokemon. It spends most of the daytime sleeping and prowls the city streets at night. When hunting, Meowth organize themselves in groups that act like gangs, foraging or stealing food from people. They are aided in their mischief by their eyes which allow them night vision. They also retract their claws back into their paws, which grants them silent movement and protecting them from leaving distinctively incriminating pawprints that alert people to their actions.

Like the bowerbird, Meowth is attracted to certain objects that catch its attention, which it collects at every opportunity and hoards in its nest. Murkrow, a Pokemon which is even more like the bowerbird, exhibits similar behaviour and members of the two species have been known to steal from the collections of the other. Meowth loves round shaped objects, as well as shiny, glittering things. The item it adores collecting the most, however, are coins, since they are both round and shiny. Meowth is known to scour the pavements for dropped loose change and even to openly steal money from people to add to its collection.

In battle, Meowth can throw the coins it has accumulated at its opponents with the Pay Day attack, a technique unique to its evolution chain. If the player wins the battle, the scattered coins are picked up from the ground and are added to his account as profit, although the attack is quite weak and gives little money each time. This is a reference to the Maneki Neko, as in this way the Meowth essentially brings its trainer money, if somewhat indirectly.

Chances: 0% (Confirmed as a Pokeball Pokemon)
(Originally 70%)

Meowth would have been an excellent addition to Brawl, but there are a few better possible candidates from Pokemon. (Mainly Pokemon Trainer, Mewtwo, and Lucario, then Meowth.) Meowth could have had an excellent move-set and would have been a suitable replacement for Jigglypuff, but it's not going to happen now.

Update #12

Marina Liteyears

Series: Mischief Makers
First Game: Mischief Makers
Creator: ???
Type: Female Brawling Android

Marina Liteyears is the Ultra-Intergalactic-Cybot-G, a female fighting android built by the goofy scientist, Professor Theo. The two of them get drawn into the local political struggles of Planet Clancer while there doing a bit of exploration, and Theo gets captured. "Help me, Marina!" he cries, in the best digitized voicework available on the N64 ten years ago, and our heroine's quest begins – Marina side-scrolls her way to his rescue and attacks her enemies, primarily, by shaking them to death. Grabbing baddies is her main method of assault, and she can either toss her foes after a grab or just shake them around to make them explode. It would be an interesting attack style to adapt to Smash Bros. Every character in the game has a grab and throw move, of course, but Marina could be a character fully focused on that style of attack. Her special moves could give her longer reach, or flinching resistance to help her get in close, and she could be equipped with a variety of different tossing techniques. Marina may be a little too far-fetched to be truly plausible for playability in Brawl, but she does count as a Nintendo mascot – and she'll no doubt come back sometime soon, at least on the Wii's Virtual Console.

Chances: 40%

Marina would be a unique addition that nobody would expect to be included, but once again there are plenty of other candidates fans would rather have than this android. She would have made an excellent playable character and could have fit in well with the current confirmed roster for Brawl, but don't expect this to happen. She has better chances of being an assist trophy than a playable character.

It's a pretty rare accessory for the NES. It was released in the early to mid 80's. I've been wanting to get one for awhile just because it would be cool to have.
